We admire those who seem to have a natural knack for excelling in their fields, whether it’s academics, sports, or the arts. But what if there’s something even more powerful than raw talent when it comes to achieving long-term goals? Enter grit—a higher-order personality trait that has been gaining attention for its ability to predict success and performance across various domains.

What is Grit?

Coined by psychologist Angela Duckworth, grit is defined as the combination of passion and perseverance for long-term goals. It’s not just about working hard in the moment; it’s about maintaining that effort and focus over years, even in the face of setbacks, failures, and plateaus. Gritty individuals are those who stay committed to their goals, no matter how challenging the journey becomes.
